Scene of the Day: Box Tree House – A Classic Georgian Cottage

There is something so iconic about the symmetrical Georgian cottage with its four windows, central front door, picket gate and lush front garden. The Box Tree House combines all the requisite elements to achieve the English Cottage look.

Firstly the front garden is guarded by a drystone wall adding that extra traditional element and a natural texture without drawing the eye away from the splendour of the house’s architecture. Keeping with the cottage aesthetic the drystone wall is punctuated by a small wooden gate with a metal latch, weathered over the years.

The front garden is lush with various flowers, shrubs and hedges, including the symmetrical rounded box trees, which just peep over the short drystone wall. The explosion of nature continues with characteristic climbers, in this case, ivy, which sweeps across the front of the house, while two yellow rose bushes stretch high, either side of the front door.

The classic black door is in a typically Georgian style, wood panelled with gold-coloured accents surrounded by a Neo-classical frame and symmetrical lanterns. The traditional house name plaque, in capital un-fussy letters, completes the restrained grandeur.

The occupiers show they are dedicated to keeping up the traditional aesthetic of the house by choosing complimentary additions, such as the large oak drive gates, protecting the gravel driveway and oak wooden carport, all in the same weathered wood as the front garden gate, flanked by an extended drystone wall and more lush plants.

This almost picture-postcard house is further enhanced by its village location in the English countryside. You can see more examples of English cottages in this post here.
